Dreams. I know that we've all had them. Many or all of which remain as dreams. After listening to the video on VISIONS, I think I have a vision that I can make a reality. My vision of the future is to make enough money through hard work and skills that I obtain in life to create a life I call mine. What I mean by this is I will have a home large enough to satisfy my family of 5 (me my wife and our 3 children). This home will be either in NY or where ever work will provide for us. I will also obtain a home nearby for my parents who I will care for. As for career and employment I am still uncertain of what I want, however that is why I am in school. Completion of school is the first step to achieving my vision. If I were to create a general vision of my career I see myself on top of a financial firm or a media company. In my free time I will travel the world with my family and enjoy what I consider to be pleasures in life (good food, golf, snowboarding, good company, spending much time with my family, etc.). There are other uncertainties that I want to make specific in my vision however my knowledge is not sufficient yet to make decisions. So far my vision is incomplete and only a collection of goals. I know what general direction I wish to travel in however the road is uncharted. But remembering the words spoken in the video,
Vision without action is just a dream.
Action without vision merely wastes time.
Vision coupled with action can make things happen!
provides a compass to help me to my destination. I know that I can apply myself to further develop my vision and make it a reality. As for the specific actions I will take to develop this dream into a vision, I will be persistent in increasing my knowledge to answer my uncertainties, further develop my vision and do whatever is necessary to make my vision a reality while complying to my morals and ethics.
This is a very interesting blog. I understand how you can have a vision-dream of which you want to be a reality. However, not every dream-vision that we have is clear and specific. However, there are two things that I think is very interesting about your vision, or rather the lack of a specific one; 1st. The fact that you have already identified certain actions and are acting on them is important. I think this is extremely important because as you say, your vision is to have enough money to live comfortably with your family, and reaching the goals you listed is very important, and in fact can be essentially considered a requirement to reaching anything that you seem to consider as being important enough to be considered a vision. Your quotation of the movie is actually very appropriate here. "Action without vision merely wastes time". This particular time I do not know if I would agree with the movie entirely. Instead I would argue that you are acting not on a specific vision, but a general vision that can be manifested in many different ways; Clearly this would not be wasting time, but rather utilizing it in the most effective way you can. The 2nd thing that I think is interesting about your vision is the fact that you have described the things in your life that will make you happy; Almost every other blog I have read, including mine, says that the writer wants to be happy and do things that they like. However, very few of us have written what they are!! Does that mean that we do not know what they are? Or that we expect them to change over time? I do not know, but the fact that you have listed it specifically as part of your goals and actions suggests that you may actually be in a better position to reach your vision than the rest of us!
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting that you mentioned dreams. I agree that dreams are something that you will not bring to reality. It is important to differentiate dream vs. vision. In the article, you mentioned couple goals that you want to accomplished, like own a large home that will satisfy your family of 5. In there I have a question, is having 3 children part of your vision? I am a number person, so why 3, but not other number? Is it related to your culture? If it is too personal, you can just ignore me. Good luck with everything!
ReplyDeletelive comfortably is the objective! i like how you put "creating a life i call mine". reminds me of Prof. Kurpis definition of power; the ability to get things done the way YOU want it to be done. also i agree that most dreams become nothing more than just dreams, however its an important ingredient for imagination and creativity. dreams can sometimes be a vision on steroids but who said that's a bad thing?
ReplyDeleteYou can turn these dreams into reality. As long as you work hard and never give up you will be able to achieve your goals. Finish school keep striving for success and one day you'll own real estate just like the one in your picture! Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteWow, your dream is really specific and i really appreciate how detailed your vision is. I think that having a dream that you can really envision with help you achieve it because its really clear what your working towards.
ReplyDeleteIts also admirable how you want to take care of your parents. Its really clear from your dream that family is really important to you and that your dream includes working to give others a great life as well as yourself.
